Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems are referred to as HVAC for short. In these systems, fan equipment plays an important role in ventilation, cooling, and air circulation. In this article, System Fan Global would like to introduce the types of fans used for the current HVAC system.
The two popular industrial fan lines today are also the two types of fans used in HVAC systems. These are industrial axial fans and industrial centrifugal fans.
1. Axial fan
Axial fans are a line of industrial fans commonly used today. The propeller structure is mounted parallel to the direction of the fan shaft, creating a suction and blowing direction parallel to the fan axis.
In the HVAC system, industrial axial fans are used for cooling, ventilation, and air conditioning.
Types of axial fans used in HVAC systems:
– Tube axial: This fan series has a propeller surrounded by a tubular fan body. Helps create the right airflow. This fan series has a fast rotation speed, creating the right airflow. Suitable for use in cases where cooling ventilation is consistent, producing a uniform amount of air.
– Vane axial fans: Vane axial fans improve efficiency and operate at high pressure. The airflow from the fan creates a vortex motion. Suitable for cooling and ventilation with variable flow.

2. Industrial Centrifugal Fan
Centrifugal fans are industrial fans used for many different uses such as ventilation, cooling, fresh air supply, smoke extraction for fire protection, exhaust gas extraction, and dust extraction in factories and industrial parks.
The structure of a centrifugal fan has blades perpendicular to the axis of the fan, creating a flow of air entering at one inlet and exiting at the blower. The shape of the centrifugal fan looks like a shell, a snail, or a hamster’s wheel. Centrifugal fans are suitable to be used to create a large flow of air, thereby providing effective cooling and ventilation.
Types of centrifugal fans commonly used in HVAC systems are:
Centrifugal fan with curved blades: Forward Curved
The forward curved wing design provides high-pressure airflow.
Backward Curved
It is a centrifugal fan with a straight or slightly curved blade design. Used when large volumes of air are required at low power. This fan series has the advantages of low power consumption and low noise generation. Common applications in HVAC systems are ventilation, and energy recovery (ERV).
Airfoil
Centrifugal fans with inclined blades create airfoil structures. Thanks to this construction, the fan can produce high-speed airflow without creating a vortex.

In an HVAC system, one or more of the above fans can be used. The combination of using different types of fans can bring the highest efficiency. However, choosing a fan requires a technician to have the expertise and carefully calculate the desired factors such as air volume, pressure, temperature, air circulation capacity, etc.
Thus, above we provide some information about industrial fans used in HVAC systems. Hope the above information brings useful content for readers.
